Hey there!
So this comic page is the result of quite a long period of chopping and changing and, being quite frank, a version of it has existed in concept since the idea for Harvest Moon was still rattling around in my head without any wheels or an engine. The page would have originally looked quite different as the scope of the story has changed quite a bit through the iteration process but the general framing idea has remained constant, namely; the book and the vignettes. Though the latter have moved and switched pretty much constantly until I pinioned them to the page with ink. In actual conception, the page came together quite easily, having been based on well trodden visual ideas that had existed to me in some form for a while. The original designs for this page would have either given away too much or told too little of the story. Hopefully, it is clear that this narrative preface is intended to be just that, a cold open style framing device. I tend to draw too long a bow at the beginning of such things and have therefore had to be quite ruthless with some ideas, asking myself; “Does this move the plot forwards meaningfully?” And if it doesn’t, discarding it. (Or recycle it into another project, as so often happens.) I have to admit that though I have been quite ruthless with this story in particular, I can never help but bathe my stories in some mystique or deeper lore, tending to bury the lead a little in the process. I hope you’ll indulge these few pages of meandering cruft. They do inform the later pages in what I think is quite a clever way and it is all firmly nestled into a larger, expanded idea which will end up transcending even the bounds of this particular narrative. I advise the curious reader not to dismiss them as a mere portal into this story alone. Such things I unapologetically value in sequential art and there is no more pleasing a sound then the hearty clunk of checkov's revolver hitting the mantle piece. In all, I am quite pleased with how this page came out. Particularly through all of the iterations, still holding some of the oldest ideas I’ve had surrounding Harvest Moon. Though, the images are quite obviously intended to be prophetic, they are for the -most part- less informed by how those ideas ended up shaping the story and more the ephemeral concepts, both visual and narrative that seeded what it would eventually became. The Eidolon’s words are more recent in conceit, therefore better concealing their importance for now… ...Or perhaps they are just Eidol ramblings. I’ll show myself out. Peace, - Kris
